Preparation for AQA exam board timed test for Resistant Materials. Contains information about the designer and lots of prompts, vocabulary and focused tasks in order to prepare for the exam.
Design task using Adobe Photoshop. Pre drawn images available for less able/confident. A task designed to develop expertise in the basic functions such as layers, colours, file types/saving, etc.
What does a product designer do? How does craft production compare to product/industrial design? Investigate and study the factors for sucessful product design and analysis.
A resource I made to support an assignment where students designed and built a wind powered garden decoration. Includes prompts to research and analyse useful research material, to model and experiment ideas, and plan the construction of a chosen idea.
Information slides describing the physical and mechanical properties of materials together with a description of shaping and forming processes. Comprehension exercises/questions to consolidate learning
Analysis of 'designer vinyl' toys and characters. Students use examples of cartoon drawing techniques to design their own character to promote a product or service. Needs padding outand refining but could b fun.
An introduction to product design. Explores Britain's creative and digital industries. The pages are specific are/have been used for unit two and unit four of the AQA Design Technology, Product Design, (3D Design). You can tweak them to suit as required? Saves us all 'reinventing the wheel' all day? Enjoy!
Made for the AQA Resistant Materials preliminary material research task in preparation for the exam. A page of development diagrams and tasks designed to prepare sudents to be able to describe in diagrams and words how to construct a task light using a variety of methods or approaches.
A resource and set of activities prepared for year eight to introduce types of motion, mechanisms and force. The resource offers some comprehension and practical research into levers, linkages, and cam mechanisms with a card based engineering design task at the end. questions and tasks to consolidate and extend the learning are built in at each stage
Preparation/practice questions for the theme of 'Public Seating for Adults and Young Children'. An opportunity to tackle exam style questions that help students prepare for the terminal exam. The questions tease out knowledge of materials, processes and terminology they will encounter for both part A and part B of the AQA exam paper for resistant materials. Students are prompted to answer using both words and pictures.
Information and tasks designed to prepare students for the unit one exam in GCSE Resistant Materials. Contains opportunities for product analysis, materials and processes, and some prompted design tasks
A resource to explore the environmental and ethical and moral impact of design and manufacturing on the planet. Several case studies are used to explore sustainability issues and the ethical alternatives. I made it as an optimistic resource that shows students there are viable, sustainable alternatives to current, unsustainable design and manufacturing. Concepts and content includes, sustainable and unsustainable design, renewable and non renewable energy sources, product life cycle analysis, six R’s of sustainability, up cycling and the hidden costs of design.
An investigation into renewable and non renewable energy sources with a comprehensive description of alternatives and benefits for sustainable energy sources.
A resource developed for years seven, eight or nine to improve graphic skills and presentation of ideas. The seven tasks begin with thick and thin line technique, rendering materials and texture. Students are given 'sample sheets' of black and white rendered forms that show how tonal detail and specific materials would appear rendered in both monochrome and colour. Students are then prompted to look at how to combine colour with tone and texture. The Powerpoint contains all the visual resources and examples needed to complete the assignment.
